Atalaya Golf & Country Club

Although this golf club only has a small part within the municipality of Benahavis, it has two golf courses that offer different challenges and options to play all year round.

Old Course

Opened in 1986 at Atalaya Golf’s Old Course, it is one of the best golf courses on the Costa del Sol. The wide and undulating fairways run between large trees and bushes that provide shade and color throughout the year. The elevated greens make the choice of club more than interesting as well as the slopes that need great precision to hit all the important putts.

The Old Course is ideal for walking and also offers magnificent views of La Concha and the Mediterranean Sea. The lakes and streams are home to a large number of animal species such as waterfowl including our two pairs of swans.

The golf course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, one of Germany’s best-known golf course architects who designed 74 golf courses in addition to Atalaya Golf. Building on the heritage of Bernard von Limburger’s design we carried out a strategic investment plan to maintain and improve the quality and playability. Every year Atalaya Golf hosts a large number of professional events while offering, as always, a challenge to players of all levels.

The New Course

Opened in 1990, this design by Paul Krings is an interesting challenge. Located in the hills above the Old Course, the New Course requires a lot of precision from the tee instead of distance. Many of the fairways are characterized by changes in height that make club selection for the next shot of vital importance.

The course offers wonderful views of the surroundings, the Mediterranean Sea and Gibraltar and thanks to its location far from busy roads you can also experiment a lot of relaxation while you play your game of golf. Although there are some slopes the course can be walked without problem, however, during the hot summer days our recommendation is to use the buggy.

The New course is immersed in a strategic improvement plan designed to maintain and improve the presentation and playability of all the holes throughout the year.

The tee of the first hole is only a few meters away from the golf academy so before starting your game you will be able to practice what you need. Be sure to stop and enjoy a coffee or snack at the Old Course’s 1st hole cafeteria on your way to the New Course where you will only find water fountains to refresh yourself during the game.
