The heart of the Costa del Golf

Benahavís is a town that belongs to Costa del Sol, well known for its ample offer of golf courses and services related to this sport. It is not a surprise that Costa del Sol is also known as Costa del Golf.

But not only that, Benahavís together with Marbella and Estepona, they form what is known as the Golden Triangle, a luxury destination where most of golf courses and services to the golf player are concentrated.

A great offer of quality accommodation and our exceptional natural surroundings complement the sport activity with all the pleasures that a traveller might imagine.

Benahavís

A great love story

Golf in the south of Spain has almost 100 years of history. Since then, the passion for this sport has been constantly growing and has managed to attract with its unbeatable offer thousands of players from everywhere around the world, like United Kingdom and Ireland, Germany, the Nordic Countries, central Europe, United States, Canada and Asia.

The wide variety of courses adapts to all levels and needs. Within only a few kilometres we find quite different golf courses, to suit all the tastes and game levels.

Designed by prestigious architects and players, they are embedded in the landscape, they are respectful with the environment and they pose a constant challenge. The variety and quality are so great that both the enthusiast and the professional will be able to find challenges fit for their expectations, to be able to have fun every time they play.

The quality of the golf courses is second to none, and amongst the renowned designers that have left their hallmark in the golf routes of Benahavís is worth to mention, for instance, Severiano Ballesteros (Los Arqueros), Manuel Piñero (La Quinta) and Dave Thomas (Marbella Club Golf Resort).

Everything around the golf player is planned for and to ease his day to day, allowing him to concentrate in what it really matters: his game.

Any activity linked to golf has in Benahavís, Costa del Sol, a provider that provides the player a comprehensive and high-quality service, like only the specialized companies know how to do well. Companies for renting and selling sport material, travel agencies specialized in golf, rent a car and transfer services, golf academies, pro shops, etc.

But if there is something to highlight, is the incredible gastronomic offer linked to Hole 19 and the Club House. Here, the cuisine has a value by itself and the quality of the food gives the golfer the possibility to enjoy the flavours of the local cuisine…as well as the unbeatable views.

Get your clubs ready and enjoy one of the most popular golf destinations in Europe.

Benahavís has 12 golf courses (216 holes in total), in 8 clubs. Villa Padierna (54 holes: Flamingos, Alferini y Tramores), La Quinta (27), La Zagaleta (36: La Zagaleta y Los Barrancos), Atalaya (36: Old y New, although this club has only a small part of it in Benahavís), Marbella Club (18), Monte Mayor (18 y momentáneamente cerrado), Los Arqueros (18) and El Higueral (9).

To those we must add the Municipal Golf Academy, right by the town centre and close to the Gran Hotel Benahavís, with 4 stars and which features a great driving range and also a wide bunker, approach area and putting green. Benahavís has become the second municipality in Spain (only behind Marbella) with the greatest number of golf courses.

But the nice weather is not enough for Málaga golf courses. Another great advantage and another great reason to play golf in Málaga are the excellent promos for Green Fees that are great to catch in low season, when the flights are more economical even though they offer connections from Europe to Málaga Airport.

Also, it is important to add a wide range of events that give dynamism to this sport and attract many celebrities that are fans of golf, like celebrities related to culture or business that have made of Costa del Sol their regular game destination.

The area has hosted some important international tournaments, both amateur and professional. For instance, La Quinta hosts from 2009 the Benahavís Senior Masters, from the Senior European Circuit, that attracts to this town famous players of over 50 years of age. Last year the Female Spain Open, from the Ladies European Tour, was played in this course. The previous edition of this same tournament of the Ladies European Tour was played at Villa Padierna Golf Course. This renowned resort, that includes the 5 star hotel where Michelle Obama and one of her daughters enjoyed some holidays, also hosted for some years the final tournament of the European Senior Circuit, The Daily Telegraph European Seniors Match Play Championship.
